From October 2025 to September 2026
Eyes with thousands of lenses, arms that can taste, claws with titanic strength, bodies that change colour, internal compasses... Sounds like science fiction? There are real animals that live in forests, rivers, beaches and even cities in Portugal. SUPERCREATURES! unveils the science behind their 'superpowers', shaped by evolution over millions of years.
From the fastest in the air, to the strongest on land, to the most cunning in the ocean, you will be able to explore some of Portugal's most fascinating animals through 27 interactive exhibits.
Originally produced by the Techmania Science Centre in Czechia, the exhibition SUPERCREATURES! Powered by Nature was developed in collaboration with the Pavilion of Knowledge – Ciência Viva Centre, where it will be in display until September 2026.
Ready? The SUPERCREATURES! adventure starts NOW...
In this exhibition, you will learn about the most fascinating abilities and characteristics of the animal kingdom through 27 interactive exhibits that also challenge your skills. It is almost as if, for one day, you could be various animals and see the world from different perspectives.

Is it a rocket? Is it a plane?
This module is dedicated to the fastest living creature on the planet: the peregrine falcon.
In normal flight, it reaches speeds of 80 km/h , but it is in its hunting ‘dive’ that it surprises with a supersonic speed of 300 km/h .

Dawn howler
Howling is the Iberian wolf's form of communication. It allows it to gather the pack, mark its territory, coordinate hunts, or express emotions.
Thanks to its power, the howl can be heard from a distance of up to 16 km in open terrain and up to 10 km in forests.
Those who dance win over their peers
There is no shortage of creativity and talent in the animal kingdom.
Whether to attract mates or to indicate the location of food sources, there are several species of animals that adopt behaviours resembling dances in nature.

The eCOCOlogical Beetle
You have just arrived at the interactive exhibit dedicated to the strongest animal in the world in proportion to its size.
Meet the sacred beetle, capable of pushing objects weighing up to 20 times its own weight. Added to this is the weight of responsibility... for its ecological role in the decomposition of organic matter.

Batmeter
This species has many ‘superpowers’... from hunting in the dark to hyperagility in the air. But there is one that stands out, and it is truly fascinating!
The common bent-wing bat control their own body temperature, almost as if they had a built-in air conditioning system. During hibernation, it reduces its metabolism and body temperature to 5ºC and, during the flight, the ‘batmeter’ can exceed 40ºC.
What do our experts say?
Three screens, nine testimonials. In this interactive exhibit, we introduce some researchers who work in the protection and conservation of animal species.
From their testimonials, we discover what science is doing to save species, the role certain animals play in the balance of the ecosystem, and the benefits of captive breeding programmes for endangered species.

Guardian of the Night
There is no hearing like this! The heart-shaped facial disc of the barn owl acts like a satellite dish.
Its ears are asymmetrical (one is higher than the other), which allows this bird to triangulate the source of a sound with great accuracy. If there is one animal that knows the secrets of the night well, it is the barn owl.

Striped illusionist
Behold the master of camouflage!
The pattern of the scales of the white seabream, when moving quickly, confuses predators by 'blurring' the contours of its body.
Among rocks and seaweed, the challenge is to locate it. Which direction did it go? At what speed? Keep your eyes peeled!
