THE HEROES AND HEROINES OF PIXAR  ARE COMING

Have you always been curious to understand how the characters in your favourite childhood films come to life? In The Science Behind Pixar , we go behind the scenes of the production processes of our most beloved animated films, exploring the science and technology behind films such as Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, or the latest blockbuster, Inside Out.

Created by the Museum of Science in Boston and Pixar Animation Studios, the new exhibition at the Pavilion of Knowledge - Ciência Viva Centre is organised into eight areas, with more than 50 interactive experiences spread across two rooms .

Ready to enter the Pixar universe? 'To Infinity and Beyond!'

EXHIBITION AREAS

Once upon a time...

It all starts with the story. One must think about the plot and characters and put them down on paper. Writers draft the story, and artists draw the characters and create the clay sculptures, called maquettes. This is when the technology kicks in: from modelling to rendering. Finally... it's time for the movie!

FUN FACTS

Lightning McQueen, from the film Cars, has 14 different paint jobs, which can be either dusty or shiny.

There are around 1,000 unique props inside the WALL-E lorry. Five modellers and five shading artists worked for over a month to create them.

Out of Merida's 112,000 hairs in Brave, more than 1,500 curly strands were sculpted individually.

It took almost two weeks to finish the most complex scene in The Incredibles.
