The Pixar heroes and heroines are coming to the Pavilion of Knowledge!

Attention, fans of animated films! You can discover the science behind the films of Pixar Studios at the Pavilion of Knowledge - Ciência Viva Centre.

Come and see behind the scenes of animated cinema and understand how such iconic characters as Mr Incredible, Buzz Lightyear, Merida, Woody, Sulley and Nemo come to life.

'The Science Behind Pixar' opens on the 11 th October at 6pm at the Pavilion of Knowledge - Ciência Viva Centre. Come along!

  • RAMP

    Lights, Camera... Science!

    Come into the most eagerly awaited premiere - not from Hollywood, but from Ciência Viva! On this day, the Pavilion of Knowledge becomes the meeting point for animated cinema, showing the scientific side of Pixar's most popular films. Climb the ramp and let yourselves be dazzled!

    And like the best film premieres, there will be no shortage of glamorous entrances on our red carpet. You're the real stars. Strike your best pose!

    What's a film premiere without a photo session? Embody your favourite Pixar characters and take this memory home with you!

  • Why does popcorn pop?

    The experience of going to the cinema is made more complete with delicious popcorn. Savour it while you discover the science behind this treat!

    Cinema bars aren't just about popcorn, which is why we have prepared some snacks alluding to Pixar films. Try them... They're 'incredible'!

  • Let the session begin!

    Official opening with presentation of the new exhibition and interventions by Rosalia Vargas, President of Ciência Viva; Javier Hidalgo Gil, Head of Science Exhibition and Scientific Programmes of ”la Caixa” Foundation; Artur Santos Silva, patron of the "la Caixa" Foundation and Honorary President of BPI; and presence of Pedro Cunha, Secretary of State for Administration and Innovation in Education.

    Opening of doors and free tour of the exhibition

    'Coco'

    'Coco' is a film full of exciting music. Researcher César Lima (ISCTE) and his team will help us discover the science of music and how our brains work when we are exposed to different types of music.

  • ‘Toy Story’

    To go ‘to infinity... and beyond!’ we must train hard. Do you think you have what it takes to be the next astronaut? Test your skills here with the help of the ESERO Portugal team.

  • ‘Brave’

    Right on target! Have fun with this archery season and join Merida on her adventures.

  • ‘WALL-E’

    Interplanetary robots? We've got them too! With the help of WALL-E, this team from ESERO Portugal will show you the wonders of robotics.

  • ‘The Incredibles’

    Come and train to be a superhero or a superheroine! How elastic can you be? What's your reaction time? Are you stronger than Mr Incredible? Find out how to train your superpowers with the help of the Incredibles family and the team of scientists from Universidade Lusófona.

  • LIBRARY

    ‘Monsters, Inc.’

    There may not be monsters under the bed, but when we don't sleep well, we turn into real monsters. Get ready for a good night's sleep in our ‘bedroom’ and explore the science of sleep with the help of Dra. Mafalda Navarro.

  • MINI ATRIUM

    ‘Up!’

    How many balloons does it take to make a house take off? In this stall that defies the laws of Physics, we'll test how many balloons it would take to lift a house like Carl’s. But beware: feet firmly on the ground!
