NAME: "In Your Face" Exhibition

DATE: 27 June to 1 July | All Day

LOCATION: Outside the Pavilion of Knowledge – Ciência Viva Centre

ORGANISATION: Ocean. Now!

DESCRIPTION: Ocean.Now! collective project with the artist Swaantje Guntzel, author of the work Microplastics and Microplastics II, in which the artist wears a face mask made of microplastics. For this exhibition, people were photographed by Ocean Lovers wearing a mask made of microplastics collected on several beaches around the world over a period of 5 months.

 

NAME: Marine Bike "Cool Science”

DESCRIPTION: Meet the "Cool Science" bike parked outside Pavilion of Knowledge, as well as touring around Parque das Nações, and explore scientific concepts related to the ocean through practical, simple and participatory activities.

 

NAME: Finding Arcadia

ORGANISATION: Interactive Technologies Institute (ITI-LARSyS), Instituto Superior Técnico

DESCRIPTION: Finding Arcadia is a prototype being developed by researchers at the Interactive Technologies Institute (ITI-LARSyS), Instituto Superior Técnico, to improve interaction and communication about climate change data. This project shows the importance of the ocean and marine ecosystems for global climate and CO2 capture, with a special focus on whales as an integral part of that ecosystem.

 

NAME: Plastics Collector

ORGANISATION: Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Portugal and Lenka Petráková

DESCRIPTION: The prototype of a 3D model designed to clean plastics from the ocean entitled "8th CONTINENT" by Lenka Petráková will be on display in the Pavilion of Knowledge – Ciência Viva Centre exhibition area. This prototype received the Jacques Rougerie Foundation's Grand Prize for Ocean Architecture and Innovation in 2020.

NAME: Biodiversity for a Resilient Planet: A Deeper Look

ORGANISATION: Deep Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI)

DESCRIPTION: experts will share ideas on the effective management and conservation of the deep sea. The panel will focus on the benefits that biodiversity of the seabed offers and other forms of life on Earth; the threats to life on the seabed; policy options for improving the conservation of seabed biodiversity; and how to design and use science to enable good policy decisions to be made for the management of the deep sea. The session will include questions from the public.

ORGANISATION: EU4Ocean Coalition and COI-UNESCO

DESCRIPTION: Side event of the United Nations Ocean Conference. Networks and institutions that promote ocean literacy worldwide participate in a dialogue across different cultures and sectors of society. This should be the first of a series of debates on different continents, a contribution of the ocean literacy community to achieve the goals of the Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development. DESCRIPTION: Supported by Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência Nature conservation and protection is essential for humanity. This panel examines this idea looking from land, from mountains, rivers, shores and sea. We are all connected, and what happens in one place impacts on all the others.

DESCRIPTION: The artworks from the Artist-in-Residence programme of the Schmidt Ocean Institute, the assets of Nautilus Magazine and Frame Store (London) will be on display in an exhibition blending classic art formats with modern representations of the ocean and its biodiversity, providing a fusion of colour, sound, light and virtual reality.

NAME: Film Sessions - Overfishing
