Media Library - What is it?

This is a small workshop area for the production of www pages and for the preparation of individual or group work. Apart from software, there are some books, magazines and CD-Roms available. The public can also sit the practical exam for the Diploma of Basic Skills in Information Technologies.

There are 2 computers adapted for the blind and visually impaired.

Media Library Opening Hours:

  • Tuesday to Friday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Weekends and bank holidays: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Closed on Mondays, 1 January and 24,25 and 31 December.

Conditions of Use

  • The Media Library is a free Pavilion of Knowledge - Ciência Viva facility.

  • Computers in this area may be used by individuals.

  • The Media Library assistants will provide whatever support you may need.

  • The CD-ROMS may be viewed without charge. Depending on the number of users, this does not require prior booking. Only Media Library CD-ROMs can be used.

  • Magazines and books may be viewed free of charge.

  • There are also workstations with different software programmes which give the user the resources necessary to extract the greatest benefit from information and communication technologies.

  • Users must inform the Assistant if they wish to change computers.

  • Users may not save documents without the knowledge of the Media Library assistant.

  • Files must be saved and printed up to half an hour before closing.

  • Printouts must be paid. Each black and white printout costs €0,20 and each colour printout 0,50€. Printouts on transparencies will only be made on transparencies bought at the Pavilion bookshop.

  • Users are not allowed to alter computer configurations or applications - if you need software that is not already installed, ask the Media Library assistant.

  • Users should treat the equipment with care, notify the assistant immediately of any problems that may arise and not use the equipment further.

  • Computers may not be reserved in advance.

  • Users are advised not to leave belongings in the Media Library while they are absent.

  • Food and drinks may not be consumed in the equipment area.

  • Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • The use of the resources available for unlawful purposes is not permitted. Infractors will not be allowed any further use. If the infraction is repeated, entry will be denied.

  • The Pavilion may reserve the right of admittance and access in case of abusive behaviour.
